Lake Manyara National Park — Full-Day Tree-Climbing Lion Safari

EXPERIENCE OVERVIEW

Safari Overview

Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania's most diverse and compact safari destinations — a ribbon of protected wilderness squeezed between the dramatic western escarpment of the Great Rift Valley and the shimmering alkaline lake that gives the park its name.

From Arusha (approximately two hours), you'll enter through the park's iconic gateway beneath towering fig and mahogany trees. The ground-water forest is alive with olive baboons, blue monkeys, and a canopy thick with hornbills and turacos. But the park's greatest fame lies in its tree-climbing lions — one of only two populations in Africa known to regularly ascend into the branches of acacia and mahogany trees.

As the forest gives way to open grassland, elephants move in family groups along the lake shore, while hippos wallow in the river pools. The lake itself hosts one of East Africa's great flamingo spectacles — hundreds of thousands of lesser flamingos creating an uninterrupted band of rose-pink along the water's edge.

A leisurely picnic lunch is served overlooking the Rift Valley escarpment before an afternoon drive through the southern acacia woodland. Return to Arusha by late afternoon.
